Hard drive recommendations

Hi - I'm looking at getting a hard drive, and am not sure what to go for. I know Sue suggested Lacie, and getting 500GB, but there are quite a few choices
What difference does firewire or USB make? If anyone can recommend a model that they think is good value for money and sufficient for using for editing it would be great if you could post a reply!
Thanks
P.S for Mac Powerbook G4

all i know is that my very computer-clever friend bought me a usb one because he def. thinks they are fastest. and you need 7200rpm. dunno if they make them with less, but if they do, you don't want that!
good luck

on paper usb 2.0 is faster, however, firewire is the preferred method for apples....best option is one w/ both connectors, but it's more expensive. if you are storing video on the hardrive but editing it on the computer, i'd go w/ firewire....

USB uses the computer's resources so your processing will suffer while you use it. However, if you need to share stuff with others, there's a better chance they have USB than firewires (sadly, for us mac users). As "husband" says, look for both.
